RESUMO

Objetivo principal: describir y comprender la percepción de las enfermeras acerca de su rol en la prevención de la obesidad y el sobrepeso infantil de 1 a 5 años en el área de crecimiento y desarrollo (CRED). Metodología: Estudio de enfoque cualitativo de tipo exploratorio. Se realizaron 10 entrevistas semiestructuradas y se utilizó la técnica de análisis de discurso para el análisis de los datos. Resultados principales: Las enfermeras percibieron y comprendieron sus funciones, valoración, facilitadores y barreras en sus intervenciones de casos de sobrepeso y obesidad infantil. Conclusión principal: Las enfermeras del área de CRED tiene una percepción clara y concisa sobre su función en la prevención del sobrepeso y la obesidad infantil. Asimismo, reconocen factores facilitadores como la toma de conciencia de los padres y el trabajo en equipo, pero enfrentan desafíos como la escasez de personal y la falta de capacitación constante.(AU)


Objective: Describe and understand the perception of nurses about their role in the prevention of obesity and overweight in children from 1 to 5 years of age in the CRED (growth and development area). Methods: A qualitative exploratory study. Ten semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the discourse analysis technique was used for data analysis. Results: Nurses perceived and understood their roles, values, facilitators and barriers in their interventions in cases of childhood overweight and obesity. Conclusion: CRED nurses have a clear and concise perception of their role in the prevention of childhood overweight and obesity. They also recognize facilitating factors such as parental awareness and teamwork, but face challenges such as staff shortages and lack of ongoing training.(AU)

Objetivos: España presenta uno de los índices más elevados de envejecimiento mundial. La mayor longevidad de las personas está asociada a una mayor probabilidad de precisar algún tipo de cuidado continuo y específico para realizar los autocuidados básicos de la vida en el día a día y, con ello, el ingreso en una residencia de ancianos. El objetivo general es conocer las características de los centros residenciales de mayores de España. Metodología: Se realizó una revisión integradora entre mayo y junio de 2022 en las diferentes bases de datos: CINAHL, PubMed, WOS, Science Direct y Dialnet. Se analizaron también las páginas web del Instituto de Mayores y Servicios Sociales y de la Organización Iberoamericana de Seguridad Social. Resultados: Los centros residenciales son equipamientos sociales que proporcionan alojamiento y atención especializada, de manera temporal o permanente, a las personas mayores que por su situación económica, familiar y social, así como por sus limitaciones de autonomía personal, no pueden ser cuidadas en su domicilio. En España hay un total de 5.529 centros residenciales, con 389.677 plazas en total. Conclusiones: Las residencias de ancianos disponen de una red de servicios comprendida por los cuidados de enfermería y médicos habituales, los cuidados paliativos, la ayuda a la familia y los servicios comunitarios y de alojamiento, que aseguran la continuidad de cuidados (AU)


Objectives: Spain has one of the highest rates of ageing in the world.The greater longevity of people is associated with a greater probability of needing some type of continuous and specific care to carry out the basic self-care of life on a daily basis, and with this, admission to a nursing home. The general objective is to find out the characteristics of residential care homes for the elderly in Spain. Methodology: An integrative review was carried out between May and June 2022 in the different databases: CINAHL, PubMed, WOS, Science Direct and Dialnet. The websites of the Instituto de Mayores y Servicios Sociales and the Organización Iberoamericana de Seguridad Social were also analysed. Results: Residential centers are social facilities that provide accommodation and specialized care, on a temporary or permanent basis, to those elderly people who, due to their economic, family and social situation, as well as their limited personal autonomy, cannot be cared for at home. In Spain, there are a total of 5,529 residential centres with 389,677 places in total. Conclusions: Nursing homes for the elderly have a network of services, comprising standard nursing and medical care, palliative care, family support and community and accommodation services, which ensure continuity of care (AU)

BACKGROUND: The nursing role significantly changed following reforms in the nurse training process. Nowadays, nurses are increasingly trained to promote and improve the quality of clinical practice and to provide support in the assistance of patients and communities. Opportunities and threats are emerging as a consequence of the introduction of new disruptive technologies in public health, which requires the health care staff to develop new digital skills. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to review and define the role of nurses and the skills they are asked to master in terms of new methodological approaches and digital knowledge in a continuously evolving health care scenario that relies increasingly more on technology and digital solutions. METHODS: This scoping review was conducted using a thematic summary of previous studies. Authors collected publications through a cross-database search (PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar) related to new telemedicine approaches impacting the nurses' role, considering the time span of 2011-2021 and therefore including experiences and publications related to the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. RESULTS: The assessment was completed between April and July 2021. After a cross-database search, authors reviewed a selection of 60 studies. The results obtained were organized into 5 emerging macro areas: (1) leadership (nurses are expected to show leadership capabilities when introducing new technologies in health care practices, considering their pivotal role in coordinating various professional figures and the patient), (2) soft skills (new communication skills, adaptiveness, and problem solving are needed to adapt the interaction to the level of digital skills and digital knowledge of the patient), (3) training (specific subjects need to be added to nursing training to boost the adoption of new communication and technological skills, enabling health care professionals to largely and effectively use new digital tools), (4) remote management of COVID-19 or chronic patients during the pandemic (a role that has proved to be fundamental is the community and family nurse and health care systems are adopting novel assistance models to support patients at home and to enable decentralization of services from hospitals to the territory), and (5) management of interpersonal relationships with patients through telemedicine (a person-centered approach with an open and sensitive attitude seems to be even more important in the framework of telemedicine where a face-to-face session is not possible and therefore nonverbal indicators are more problematic to be noticed). CONCLUSIONS: Further advancing nurses' readiness in adopting telemedicine requires an integrated approach, including combination of technical knowledge, management abilities, soft skills, and communication skills. This scoping review provides a wide-ranging and general-albeit valuable-starting point to identify these core competences and better understand their implications in terms of present and future health care professionals' roles.

Introduction: The educational function of the nursing role is considered an instance oflink with the community. Objective: to unveil health promotion practices based on educationalradio advertisements of nurses in 1983 in Chile. Material and method: qualitative perspective,with linguistically oriented discourse analysis, and review of the literature in databases: Scielo,Google scholar, Science direct, with keywords: community health nursing, role of the nurse,health education , history of nursing. Results: the education function in the nursing role showspower edges and is associated with the political context of the time. The care of the child and thefamily is associated with the responsibility of the woman, with explicit instructions that themother must comply with in order to obtain optimal health for her children. Hygiene measuressuch as hand washing are strongly instilled in the prevention of infectious - contagious diseases.Discussion and Conclusion: Health promotion, exercised as a radio educational activity, was analternative for linking and channeling with the most vulnerable population, to achieve states offamily well-being and made it possible to make visible the educational function of the role ofprofessional nurses


Introducción: La función de educación del rol de enfermería, se considera instancia devínculo con la comunidad. Objetivo: develar prácticas de promoción de salud basadas en anuncioseducativos radiales de enfermeras en el año 1983 en Chile. Material y método: perspectivacualitativa, con análisis de discurso de orientación lingüística, y revisión de la literatura en basesde datos: Scielo, Google scholar, Science direct, con palabras claves: enfermería en saludcomunitaria, rol de la enfermera, educación en salud, historia de la enfermería. Resultados: lafunción de educación en el rol de enfermería muestra aristas de poder y se asocia al contextopolítico de la época. Se asocia el cuidado del niño y familia a la responsabilidad de la mujer,explicitándose instrucciones que debía cumplir la madre para obtener una óptima salud de sushijos. Se inculcan fuertemente medidas de higiene como lavado de manos en prevención deenfermedades infecto - contagiosas. Discusión y Conclusión: La promoción de la salud, ejercidacomo actividad educativa radial fue una alternativa de vinculación y canalización con la poblaciónmás vulnerable, para alcanzar estados de bienestar familiar y permitió visibilizar la función deeducación del rol de las profesionales enfermeras.


Introdução: A função educativa da função de enfermagem é considerada uma instânciade vínculo com a comunidade. Objetivo: desvelar práticas de promoção da saúde baseadas emanúncios educacionais de rádio de enfermeiras em 1983 no Chile. Introducción: La disfunción renal aguda es una complicación grave y frecuente en Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos, que se asocia al empleo de terapias continuas de reemplazo renal, donde la actuación de enfermería es determinante para su aplicación exitosa. Objetivo: Describir el rol de enfermería en el uso de terapias de reemplazo renal continuo en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Quirúrgicos. Métodos: Estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo de corte transversal, en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del Centro Nacional de Cirugía de Mínimo Acceso, La Habana, Cuba, desde 2016 hasta 2019. Universo de 10 pacientes con terapias de reemplazo renal continuo, se revisaron en historias clínicas las variables edad, sexo, duración del hemofiltro, duración de la terapia, acceso venoso, valores de creatinina y urea. Se utilizó el programa IBM SPSS para Windows para calcular distribuciones de frecuencias absolutas, porcentajes, media, mediana, desviación típica, valor mínimo y máximo. Resultados: La mediana de edad fue 73 años, el hemofiltro con duración media de 14,70 horas, tiempo medio de terapia 77 horas, valores medios de creatinina 206,9 É¥mol/l y urea 22,4 mmol/l. Se utilizó anticoagulación sistémica. Conclusiones: El rol de enfermería fue decisivo en el uso exitoso de terapias de reemplazo renal continuo en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Quirúrgicos estudiada. La insuficiencia renal aguda fue la causa de inicio de las terapias, predominaron los pacientes adultos mayores sin diferencias en relación al sexo. Se mantuvo la terapia por más de 72 horas en varios pacientes, se debe lograr una mayor longevidad de los filtros(AU)


Introduction: Acute renal dysfunction is a serious and frequent complication in Intensive Care Units, associated with the use of continuous renal replacement therapies, where nursing action is decisive for successful application. Objective: To describe the involvement of nursing in the use of continuous renal replacement therapies in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study of 10 patients with continuous renal replacement therapies in the Intensive Care Unit was carried out at the National Center for Minimal Invasive Surgery, Havana, Cuba, from 2016 to 2019. The medical records were reviewed for the variables age, sex, hemofilter duration, duration of therapy, venous access, creatinine and urea values. The IBM SPSS program for Windows was used to calculate absolute frequency distributions, mean, percentages, median, standard deviation, minimum and maximum value. Results: The median age was 73 years, hemofilter had a mean duration of 14.70 hours, mean therapy time 77 hours, mean creatinine values 206.9 µmol /l and urea 22.4 mmol /l. Systemic anticoagulation was used. Conclusions: The nursing involvement was decisive in the successful use of continuous renal replacement therapies in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit studied. Acute renal failure was the cause of initiation of therapies; older patients predominated with no differences in relation to sex. The therapy was kept for more than 72 hours in several patients; a greater longevity of the filters should be achieved(AU)

Nurses consistently stand out in extraordinary ways especially during a global crisis, recently confirmed in the current Covid-19 pandemic. What is opportune this time is the call for clarity around what nurses do and what society can expect from them. Nurses, as members of a global profession, need a platform to build a contemporary practice life. This paper proposes the model: The Exemplary Practice Life of the Nurse. It provides a framework to explicate the essence of the role of the nurse. The model posits four inter-related essential components or pillars that ground a nurse's behavior and commitment: professionalism, leadership, scholarly practice, and stewardship. This uncomplicated, straightforward model is universally applicable for nurses to apply in whatever roles they hold and at any point in their careers. The use of a holistic model, as a guide across a full career trajectory, supports the nurse's ability to prioritize individual pillars while understanding the inter-relationship and influence among the four pillars. The authors pose assumptions that form the basis of the registered nurse role and provide the foundation for the exemplary practice life of the nurse. They make recommendations to nurses, the profession, the workplace, the academy, and the community.

RESUMO

O objetivo deste estudo foi reconhecer as atribuições da equipe de Enfermagem na prestação dos cuidados paliativos à pessoa atendida na rede da Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS). Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa, na qual realizou-se uma busca no período de janeiro de 2008 a setembro de 2017 nas bases de dados Scientific Eletronic Library Online, PubMed, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde e Base de Dados de Enfermagem. Foram encontrados 488 trabalhos científicos, entretanto, após a análise dos critérios de inclusão, foi eleita uma amostra de nove artigos que atenderam ao objetivo deste estudo. As atribuições assistenciais que emergiram da equipe de enfermagem na atenção paliativista foram: educação em saúde, banho, curativos, administração de medicamentos, passagem de sondas, controle e alívio dos sintomas de baixa complexidade com vistas à redução do sofrimento, esclarecimentos sobre a patologia ou complicações relacionadas ao adoecimento, promoção do autocuidado e prevenção de complicações. Percebe-se a necessidade de mais estudos que demonstrem as atribuições da equipe de enfermagem na APS, haja vista a mudança do perfil epidemiológico, o aumento da prevalência das doenças crônicas não transmissíveis (DCNT's), causas externas e câncer.


This study aimed to recognize the role of the Nursing team in providing palliative care to people served in the Primary Health Care (PHC) network. This is an integrative review, in which a search was conducted from January 2008 to September 2017 in the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online, PubMed, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, and Nursing database. A total of 488 scientific papers were found. However, after analyzing the inclusion criteria, a sample of nine articles was chosen to meet this study's objective. The care assignments that emerged from the nursing team in palliative care were: health education, bathing, dressings, medication administration, the passage of tubes, control, and relief of low complexity symptoms to reduce suffering, clarification about the pathology or complications related to illness, promotion of self-care and prevention of complications. There is a need for more studies that demonstrate the attributions of the nursing team in PHC, given the change in the epidemiological profile, the increased prevalence of chronic non- communicable diseases (CNCDs), external causes, and cancer.

Introduction: The context of the pandemic has generated important changes in health professionals who work in hospital settings, especially in nursing personnel who are in the first line, facing stressful situations that have a direct impact on the degree of job satisfaction. Objective: Determine the relationship between work stressors and the satisfaction of Peruvian nurses in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Cross-sectional, correlational and analytical study carried out in 60 nurses who work in critical services of a public hospital in Chimbote (Peru). Two Likert-type scale questionnaires adapted to the Peruvian context were used. The variables were expressed in percentages, and Pearson's bivariate correlation test was used to establish an association. A significance level of p <0.05 was assumed. Results: The medium level prevailed in the environmental (63.3%), work (83.3%) and personal (51.7%) stressors of the nursing professionals. A significant association was found between job satisfaction and environmental stressors (p <0.01) and personal (p <0.05). Conclusions: The environmental and personal factor in Peruvian nurses who are working in direct patient care in the COVID-19 context is associated with job satisfaction.


Introducción: El contexto de la pandemia ha generado cambios importantes en los profesionales de salud que laboran en ámbitos hospitalarios, especialmente en el personal de enfermería que se encuentra en primera línea, afrontando situaciones de estrés que repercuten directamente sobre el grado de satisfacción laboral. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre los estresores laborales y la satisfacción de enfermeras peruanas en el contexto de la pandemia COVID ­ 19. Métodos: Estudio transversal, correlacional y analítico realizado en 60 enfermeras que laboran en servicios críticos de un hospital público de Chimbote (Perú). Se utilizaron dos cuestionarios de escala tipo Likert adaptados al contexto peruano. Las variables se expresaron en porcentajes, y para establecer asociación se utilizó la prueba de correlación bivariada de Pearson. Se asumió un nivel de significancia p<0,05. Resultados: El nivel medio prevaleció en los estresores ambiental (63,3%), laboral (83,3%) y personal (51,7%) de los profesionales de enfermería. Se encontró asociación significativa entre la satisfacción laboral y los estresores ambiental (p<0,01) y personal (p<0,05). Conclusiones: El factor ambiental y personal en las enfermeras peruanas que se encuentran laborando en atención directa al paciente en el contexto COVID ­ 19 se encuentra asociado a la satisfacción laboral.

In a context of aging of the population, increased prevalence of chronic diseases and increasing complexity, it is necessary to define new professional roles that can meet the health needs of the population. Added to this is the certainty that variability in clinical practice, as well as in health management, makes it necessary to use best evidence as the basis for decision-making. But the application of clinical practice based on evidence in a specific context implies a broad mastery of the available evidence, its applicability and limitations, as well as a deep understanding of the particular characteristics of the area where it is to be applied, from the "macro" (health policies, framework regulations, strategic lines, social values, etc.) to the "micro" level (local culture, user preferences, etc.). The "Health Service of the Balearic Islands", in collaboration with the Faculty of Nursing and Physiotherapy from the University of the Balearic Islands, proposes the development of new advanced practice nursing roles that focus their efforts on the planned implementation of evidence in clinical settings. Advanced practice nurses have managed naturally, thanks to their competence development, to exercise the role of promoting organizational and attitudinal changes that facilitate the implementation of evidence in organizations and complex environments.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the characteristics of nurses' work process in different countries. Method: We have used the integrative review method and selected 84 publications (articles, theses and dissertations) in national and foreign thesis banks and databases. We analyzed the evidence based on dialectical materialism. Results: The rejection of managerial tasks hides the singularity of nurses' work, due to the failure to understand the inseparable nature of managerial and healthcare tasks, given that it is what provides the expertise to coordinate the nursing work process and guide the healthcare work processes. The social and technical division is present in the work process in all countries studied, albeit in different ways. The nurse's position in the healthcare work process is subordinated to that of the physician. Conclusion: The characteristics are similar. The rejection of the dual nature of the work by nurses themselves due to alienation results in the non-recognition of their own work.


RESUMEN Objetivo: Analizar características del proceso de trabajo de la enfermera en diferentes países. Método: Utilizamos el método de la revisión integradora y seleccionamos 84 publicaciones (artículos, tesis y disertaciones) en bases de datos y banco de tesis nacionales e internacionales. Las evidencias fueron analizadas en la perspectiva del materialismo dialéctico. Resultados: La negación del trabajo gerencial esconde la singularidad del trabajo de la enfermera, por la no comprensión de la naturaleza indisociable gerencial-asistencial, visto que eso confiere la experiencia para coordinar el proceso de trabajo en enfermería y direccionar los procesos de trabajo en salud. La división técnica y social está presente en el proceso de trabajo en todos los países estudiados, aunque bajo formas distintas. El lugar de la enfermera en el proceso de trabajo asistencial está subordinado al médico. Conclusión: Las características son semejantes. La negación de la propia naturaleza dual del trabajo por la enfermera, vía alienación, culmina en el no reconocimiento del propio trabajo.

Resumo Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, com o objetivo de analisar os motivos de satisfação e insatisfação no trabalho, segundo os modelos assistenciais utilizados na atenção básica no Brasil: o tradicional e a Estratégia Saúde da Família. Foram entrevistadas vinte enfermeiras em Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. Os dados foram coletados entre março e maio de 2013, por meio da triangulação, entrevistas e observação, organizados no software Atlas.ti e examinados com base na análise de conteúdo. O estudo mostrou 25 diferentes motivos de satisfação e 23 diferentes motivos de insatisfação no trabalho. Não houve diferenças marcantes entre os dois modelos de atenção, e essas têm maior relação com a gestão municipal e com as condições de trabalho.


Abstract This is a qualitative study aimed at analyzing the reasons for job satisfaction and dissatisfaction, as reported by twenty nurses who work in two care models used in basic care in Brazil: The traditional model and the Family Health Strategy. Data were collected between March and May 2013, through triangulation, interviews, and observation; they were organized in the Atlas.ti software and examined based on content analysis. The study showed 25 different reasons for job satisfaction, and 23 different reasons for job dissatisfaction. There was no significant differentiation between the two care models, indicating that they are more related with municipal management and work conditions.


Resumen Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, con el objetivo de estudiar los motivos de satisfacción e insatisfacción en el trabajo, relatados por veinte enfermeras que actúan en dos modelos asistenciales utilizados en la atención básica en Brasil: el modelo tradicional y la Estrategia Salud de la Familia. Los datos se recolectaron entre marzo y mayo de 2013, por medio de triangulación, entrevistas y observación, organizados en el software Atlas.ti y se estudiaron en base al análisis de contenido. El estudio mostró 25 diferentes motivos de satisfacción y 23 diferentes motivos de insatisfacción en el trabajo. No fue significativa la diferencia entre los dos modelos de atención, indicando que éstos tienen mayor relación con la gestión municipal y con las condiciones de trabajo.

RESUMO

This article gives an overview of female urinary incontinence including the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of stress urinary incontinence and overactive bladder syndrome. It summarises recent guidelines, the role of the nurse in conservative management and when a referral for specialist care is required. It aims to encourage nurses to use all opportunities to identify women who have urinary incontinence then to assess and treat urinary incontinence effectively. All patients should receive a full continence assessment. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines recommend conservative treatments including lifestyle advice, pelvic floor exercises and bladder retraining. Nurses may need to access training from their local specialist continence nurse service to enable them to provide evidence-based care. This article concludes that equitable, integrated continence services are essential to improve the quality of care for people with continence problems.

RESUMO

In response to the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics' global agenda for clinical research and quality of care in long-term care homes (LTCHs), the International Consortium on Professional Nursing Practice in Long Term Care Homes (the Consortium) was formed to develop nursing leadership capacity and address the concerns regarding the current state of professional nursing practice in LTCHs. At its invitational, 2-day inaugural meeting, the Consortium brought together international nurse experts to explore the potential of registered nurses (RNs) who work as supervisors or charge nurses within the LTCHs and the value of their contribution in nursing homes, consider what RN competencies might be needed, discuss effective educational (curriculum and practice) experiences, health care policy, and human resources planning requirements, and to identify what sustainable nurse leadership strategies and models might enhance the effectiveness of RNs in improving resident, family, and staff outcomes. The Consortium made recommendations about the following priority issues for action: (1) define the competencies of RNs required to care for older adults in LTCHs; (2) create an LTCH environment in which the RN role is differentiated from other team members and RNs can practice to their full scope; and (3) prepare RN leaders to operate effectively in person-centered care LTCH environments. In addition to clear recommendations for practice, the Consortium identified several areas in which further research is needed. The Consortium advocated for a research agenda that emphasizes an international coordination of research efforts to explore similar issues, the pursuit of examining the impact of nursing and organizational models, and the showcasing of excellence in nursing practice in care homes, so that others might learn from what works. Several studies already under way are also described.
